In March 2003, Andrew Wilkie resigned from the Office of National Assessments. He was the only serving intelligence official in Australia, the United Kingdom or the United States to resign publicly before the invasion of Iraq.

He had read the intelligence. He knew the case for war did not hold. He said so, on the record, and walked away from his career to do it.

The government called him disloyal. There were no weapons of mass destruction. Wilkie was right.

He went on to write Axis of Deceit. He stood against the prime minister who took the country to war. Since 2010 he has served as the independent member for Clark, and he has spent that time defending the people who follow his example: whistleblowers, journalists and truth tellers who pay a price for what they expose.
